20.06.2006, 16.42

- Russia will under no circumstances back any decision of the U.N. Security Council to use force against Iran in any form whatsoever, Head of the Russian Delegation, First Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Andrei Denisov told the session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC Nations, which is currently continuing its work in the Azerbaijani capital.
The diplomat stressed that any settlement of the Iranian problem by force “is a way into nowhere and is fraught with a serious conflict and with hard-to-predict destructive consequences, primarily for the region”. He said he hoped the proposal of the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council and Germany, which was delivered to the Iranian side, would “offer a chance to find concrete ways to settle the situation by means of negotiations”.
“Russia believes there is no reasonable alternative to the policy of settling any conflicts and differences by diplomatic means,” Denisov stated
